The Sarah Timmons Activity Program
The Sarah Timmons Activities Program, established by S.D. Professionals and managed by Dolly Parton’s My People Senior Center, honors the legacy of Sarah Scott Timmons by providing monthly activities and assistance for Sevier County, TN seniors at home and for those in short and long-term, assisted living.
Funds will help absorb costs involving monthly planned activities and travel and will be managed by the Dolly Parton My People Senior Center in Sevierville, TN.
Sarah Scott Timmons, born September 5, 1940, moved to Tennessee in March 2018 to receive short-term rehabilitation care. A wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sarah always stayed active, even in her later years when she was confined to a wheelchair. Cooking, shopping and taking roads trips were just some of the ways she lived life to the fullest.
As she aged, she and her family realized that with every passing year, staying mobile and active became harder and harder. Had it not been for her children and her in-home care, she would have never left her home. With that in mind and knowing not everyone has the support they need to keep active, the “Sarah Timmons Activity Program” was born.
So many seniors at home can’t get out on their own and so many seniors in assisted living facilities, don’t have the luxury of frequent family visits and activities outside of what is offered by their facility (which usually has very limited activities budgets). With our funding and the professional activities teams at the Dolly Parton My People Senior Center, we want to give Sevier County Seniors something fun to look forward to each and every month and we couldn’t have found a better partner!
