“Thankful Thoughts” During November “Sarah’s Fund” Day

November Sarah's Fund Day

Sevier County seniors enjoy holiday activities thanks to Sarah’s Fund

Every month, seniors in Sevier County, TN look forward to fun-filled day of activities and entertainment thanks to your help and the Sarah Timmons Activities Program (Sarah’s Fund). Contributions to Sarah’s Fund help provide monthly travel and activities for local seniors at home and for those in assisted living. And those activities wouldn’t be possible without the passionate activities staff at the Dolly Parton My People Senior Center!

During November’s “Sarah’s Fund” Day, seniors were entertained by the Smoky Mountain Storytellers Association while enjoying a tasty meatloaf lunch. In celebration of the upcoming holidays, they enjoyed making “Thankful Thoughts” jars for Thanksgiving and crafted their own special Christmas ornaments!

Karen Estep, Business Manager for the Senior Center, reflected on the impact of Sarah’s Fund.

“From the Staff at My People Activity Center, we want to wish you a blessed Thanksgiving and tell you that you are one of our biggest blessings! We are so thankful for you and for the happiness you have provided for the Seniors involved in Sarah’s Fund.”

Upcoming Christmas Celebrations

The seniors involved in Sarah’s Fund have even more to look forward to in December. Since many of the Sarah’s Fund seniors do not have relatives close by, the passionate activities staff arranged two outings in December to give them a nice celebration for Christmas! For their regularly planned December “Sarah’s Fund” Day, they are all invited to the Senior Center’s annual Christmas Party Lunch. As an additional treat, seniors are invited back to the Senior Center for another day of entertainment to enjoy the Choir’s performance of “Rhapsody in Bluegrass”, along with Christmas cookies and hot cider!

Sarah’s Fund was developed in partnership with S.D. Professionals’ President, Jacob Timmons, and the Sevier County Council on Aging staff at the Dolly Parton My People Senior Activity Center. Together they work to identify seniors isolated at home as well as lacking the ability to attend activities outside of their home or healthcare facility.
